Control Freak Week 2019: A celebration of what it means to be a part of the UTAK team

You might know September as the beginning of the school year, or the preamble to Pumpkin Spice season. But between these walls, all we look forward to is Control Freak Week.

It’s a weeklong celebration where we play as hard as we work. It kicks off with a lot of snacks. We had a sweet breakfast spread of donuts and muffins one morning, and Matt’s legendary Tater Tot Casserole another morning. Our annual Control Freak potluck was an absolute smash. Everyone contributed some really amazing dishes — just look at that quiche!

For our next adventure, we were challenged to find golden molecules hidden throughout the office. Molecule Master Gina proved to be a formidable opponent, hiding molecules in plain sight that we somehow managed to not find for an entire day. She’s real good.

We closed out the week with an awards luncheon, where we came together to congratulate our highest achievers, followed by a beanbag tournament, where we came together to destroy one another, all in the spirit of fun. Shoutout to Jordan and Cooper for taking home the top prize!

Once we crowned our beanbag champions, it was time to crown more winners off the field. We recognized the achievements of four Control Freaks:

Ace of Initiative: Daniela
Trusted Team Member: JR
Rockstar Rookie: Kalyani
Ultimate Task Master: Meryssa

Our biggest winner of the day, though, was Andrew. He was nominated by his peers as the Control Freak of the Quarter for Q3. In the short time since he’s taken the reins in both Customer Service and Shipping, he’s led an already extraordinary team to new heights. Go Andrew!

With Control Freak Week 2019 in the books, all that’s left to do is look forward to next year. We’ll be practicing our beanbag skills in the meantime!
