Since 1975, the American Society for Medical Technology (now known as the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science or ASCLS) has been celebrating National Medical Laboratory Week (NMLW). This week-long event provides a platform for clinical laboratory professionals to raise public awareness and appreciation for their important work. With a joint committee of representatives from 17 national clinical laboratory organizations, including ASCLS, coordinating the event, MLPW is observed during the final week of April annually. As the event enters its 47th year, it is essential to recognize its historical significance.
Each year, Lab Week features a unique and exciting theme. This year, the theme was the 80s, with a playful nod to the popular TV show ‘Saved by the Bell,’ renamed ‘Saved by the Lab.’
UTAK celebrated Lab Week by organizing a variety of fun games and activities, including UTAK Bingo, brain teasers and riddles, guessing games, a scavenger hunt, and an 80s dress-up day. Winners of each event received specially designed ‘Saved by the QC’ stickers.
The Control Freaks certainly know how to have some fun! To further show our appreciation for medical lab professionals, we decided to do a big giveaway on social media. Participants had to follow UTAK’s various social media accounts and participate in our Lab Week posts. Prizes included Control Freak SWAG like shirts, hats, socks, and gift cards, with the grand prize being a catered lunch for the winning lab. And of course, the celebration was not complete without the iconic “Saved by the QC” stickers.
It was a great success, and we look forward to bringing more Lab Week celebrations and giveaways in the future! So don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, for more upcoming activities. Congratulations to all the winners!
